As 2009 comes to an end and I celebrate over 25 years of self-employment, I reflect upon my experience and talent as a professional photographer. I feel these three adjectives - Classic, Candid and Creative aptly describe the skill, style and service of Debbie Adams Photography.
CLASSIC 1) generally considered to be of the highest quality or lasting value, especially in the arts. 2) authorized and perfected as a standard of its kind. 3) simple, restrained, and refined in style. 4) always fashionable and elegant, usually because of simplicity and restraint in style.
CANDID 1) free from prejudice or bias; fair; just; impartial. 2) very honest or frank in what one says or writes. 3) unposed and informal.
CREATIVE 1) creating or able to create. 2) having or showing imagination and artistic or intellectual inventiveness. 3) stimulating the imagination and inventive powers.
After nine months of self-unemployment, I am very much looking forward to establishing my business in Longmont, Colorado. I have met so many friendly and upbeat people and it seems this town has a strong sense of community and support. What a wonderful place to call home!
I photographed two classic, executive portraits to inaugurate my studio space this week. I had two new clients pleased with their professional business portrait. Scott Cook, Member Services at Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce and Jackie Wright, Investment Officer at Wells Fargo Advisors.

The lower level, also known as the basement, has been transformed from undone to designed. Even though the floor remains concrete for the time being, we are delighted with the finish. We could not have been happier in working with Brooks Design-Build and their entire crew, they were first-rate, reliable, thorough and completed the job ahead of schedule. Debbie Adams Photography now has a place for portraits and creativity, our home gym is ready for us to workout and get fit and the friendly ping pong competition has begun! Happy Holidays!

The first of December 2009 is the first anniversary of buying our home in Colorado. Who knew back then everything would work out so well when we took a major leap of faith to change our lives from Santa Barbara to Longmont without promise of employment or knowing what was next? We made a decision to focus on the positive and trust the Universe to joyfully flow in wonderous ways to open up opportunities for us to establish our life in a new community. Within the eight months since we moved, we have come to enjoy and appreciate what Longmont and the surrounding area has to offer. It's all a part of the adventure.
I have no doubt "planning and persistence is the path to prosperity" and my photography business will once again flourish in the new year. The lower level will be finished this month and have a lovely professional studio space to devote to portrait photography of people, pets and whatever else I am so inspired to photograph. I can't wait to create! We are really glad we contracted with Brooks Design-Build to do the project, it has been a wonderful experience to work with them, they are first-rate and reliable.
I wholeheartedly am a new member of the Longmont Chamber of Commerce to participate in the different programs and events they provide. I want to get to know the people and businesses who are the heart and spirit of Longmont. This is home sweet home and we are here to stay for a long while in the "third chapter." Of course I have learned to never say never, but we find Colorado absolutely breathtaking with the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains and the ever changing weather. [I really need to wake up early to catch some of the incredible sunrises with clouds in the sky. I often catch a peak when I am briefly awake and say "OMG, how beautiful, I really need to get up" and then jump back into bed. It's hard for me to be a morning person as I like to sleep until 8 AM.]
I was talking to my friend, Joyce Johnson, this evening and she was saying how cold it was in Santa Barbara with temps in the forties. Couldn't help but be amused as we've got a forecast for temps in the twenties to single digits for the next few days. Welcome to Colorado!
We had the honor and pleasure to provide professional photographic event coverage to a nonprofit organization called Teaching Peace at their 3rd annual peace benefit dinner Pasta, Peace and Pizzazz! held at Pinocchios in Longmont, Colorado.
The oral tradition of the Iroquois tells of a Peacemaker who warned the people that as long as there was violence, there would be fear that would diminish everyone’s sense of safety and peace of mind. There must be a unified effort by humans for peace to prevail. Through logic, reasoning, and spiritual means, the Peacemaker inspired the warriors to bury their weapons and adopt a Path of Peace. The Great Tree of Peace was planted on top of this site to mark a new beginning. The Peacemaker proclaimed that the branches of the white pine would spread out to shelter all who commit themselves to Peace.
Teaching Peace honors this teaching through their mission: "To cultivate a safe and caring community, reduce crime and bring together those involved in crime or conflict to be heard, creating justice for all." In collaboration wtih Longmont Community Justice Partnership, they offer simple solutions to complex problems to bring civility to schools, make our world safer, experience satisfying resolutions to personal conflicts, resolve work place conflicts, experience accountability with compassion, and discover the power of your own story.
It was an inspirational night to hear first-hand stories from actual participants from their circles of what really goes into one of these restorative justice processes and how enormous the impact can be. Deb Witzel and Beverly Title are amazing women as well as the rest of the staff and board of directors of Teaching Peace. Visit their website for more information at www.teachingpeace.org

"I would love to live like a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding." -John Donahue
Love, like friendship is not something that you seek, but something that you give.
Life is about choice. You get to choose how you respond to what happens.
"It's not so important where we stand, but the direction in which we are moving." -Goethe
People don't remember what you did, or what you said, but how you made them feel.
